Dalmatian Rescue
Dalmatian Rescue clubs are non-profit organizations dealing in rescuing,
treating and re-homing dogs that for some reason have lost their owners.
Dog rescue activities are usually based on volunteer efforts, and they
live by donations and can be funded by various sponsors. Unfortunately,
these organizations always have a job to do, since nearly half of all
once purchased Dalmatians eventually become unwanted.
Actually, there is just one reason why Dalmatians lose their homes, and
this is our hastiness and irresponsibility. Most puppies bought from
puppy mills develop serious diseases and behavior problems, so their
owners eventually feel disappointed in their pets and see no better
alternative than surrendering their pets to Dalmatian Rescue
organizations. Dalmatians are naturally active and somewhat rowdy,
especially in youth, and many owners fail to properly train and
socialize their dogs. When they grow up, they often become ill-tempered
and too suspicious of guests.
Dalmatians are naturally active, and they tend to become hyperactive
unless they have a good entertainment. They are intelligent companions,
but they can be stubborn and persistent in doing things their own way.
Failure to provide exercise and entertainment for a Dalmatian may lead
to noisy or destructive behavior and serious behavior problems, which is
just one more reason why so many Dalmatians end up in Dalmatian Rescues.
Training and socialization are absolute musts. It takes a great deal of
devotion and thought to arrange training process properly, as these dogs
often have to pass through a routine before they start to respond to
training. Training is not always an easy game, and many novice Dalmatian
owners experience difficulties.
Dalmatians are strong and boisterous, and if they get out of hand, they
can become a sheer trouble for young owners. These dogs grow very fast,
but they grow faster physically than mentally. For this reason, they
retain their puppy-like rowdiness for a long time, and if a two-year-old
Dalmatian gets up to a mischief, he may turn the whole place upside
down. Dalmatians like to chew on things, so they need chewing toys. If
you fail to provide toys for your Dalmatian, he may take it out on your
shoes, clothes and furniture. Destructive behavior is just another
reason why Dalmatian Rescue organizations find it hard to cope with the
inflow of abandoned and stray Dalmatians.
