Dalmatian Puppy
A Dalmatian Puppy is a merry and amusing creature. Some people call Dalmatians eternal puppies, because they often behave like puppies until about 2 years old. Needless to say large dogs are not easy to control, so many Dalmatian owners are confronted with a lot of problems when their Dalmatians reach their full size. Not every owner can cope with difficulties, so many Dalmatians land up in shelters and rescue clubs. In order to avoid behavior problems, Dalmatians must be trained and socialized properly.
Adult Dalmatians measure 19-24 inches high at the withers, and they weigh 40-60 lbs on the average. These are easily recognized through their white spotted coats. Dalmatians are strong and elegant. They have elongated heads with soft and curved ears, brown or blue eyes and black or blue nose. A long time ago, their predecessors used to accompany horse-drawn carriages, and they often had to cover long distances. Only a truly devoted and physically strong dog could withstand a long trip. The dog’s boiling energy is readily observable in Dalmatian Puppies.
Dalmatians are very vivacious, curious and intelligent by nature. Their admirable appearance and lovely disposition have earned them the tremendous Walt Disney fame. These dogs are strong and graceful, and they appreciate company and interaction. Dalmatians are very fun to play with, so they make superb playmates for children. However, these dogs tend to be reserved with strangers, and hence they require early socialization. Dalmatians are prone to deafness, and deaf dogs often become sullen and wary toward strangers and other pets. However, they can understand the language of gestures very well and therefore are quite trainable.
The Dalmatian’s life span averages 10-12 years. These dogs are prone to a number of genetic diseases, such as deafness and urinary tract disorders. Unfortunately, about 10% of all Dalmatians are born deaf. For this reason, Dalmatian breeders have to thoroughly monitor the genetic health of every puppy. Dogs with physical abnormalities should not be admitted to any breeding program. Dogs with undesirable traits should be spayed/neutered. Some dogs are susceptible to kidney stones. In order to prevent or serious diseases, every Dalmatian Puppy’s urinary system must be examined on a regular basis.
